Painting, Drawing, and Ceramics

Within the painting studio, students learn to use light, composition, and color theory. Steps away, ceramicists tap ancient, post-Renaissance, and contemporary traditions to turn clay into pottery. In the space dedicated to drawing, students explore lines, shapes, and the illusion of depth to develop techniques that make drawn objects look real.

Photography & Video

Groton teaches both traditional and digital imaging at beginning and advanced levels. Students build a solid foundation of technical knowledge while discovering a visual language useful for interpreting the world.

Woodworking

Groton’s woodshop is legendary! Students enjoy the challenge of a sophisticated, hands-on program and learn to use the basic hand tools and power tools needed for cabinetmaking. Projects emphasize good design and craftsmanship; they range from simple boxes to—for advanced students—period pieces such as grandfather clocks and secretaries.

Groton’s woodworking program offer difficult and time-consuming work that results in significant, personal, and tangible accomplishment.
